Where & What we’re doin for school

Not Back to School Blog Hop

The voyeur in me is loving the blog hop going on at heart of the matter. This week it’s everyone showing off their school space/school rooms. As we have a very limited space in the family room it’s really cool to see what everyone else’s space looks like. I didn’t catch the blog hop until this week so I missed everyone’s curriculum posting last week. I just added both into this post!

I’m getting it all set up for the coming year. Our philosophy of education is complete and 99.9% of our curriculum is here. Last years books & work have been purged. New books/curriculum have been organized on the shelf and school areas have been decluttered.

I have loose planning almost done and will then move on to semester planning to keep us on track.

In addition to the semester planning I need to peruse and make myself familiar with and look through all of it so I know what the heck I’m teaching :)

I’ve organized the kids workboxes & set up the computer (yes one of the kids was messing around on a chair last year and broke off the whole back ~ so now it’s a stool :)   This table we got last year and put in the family room with the intention of using it as the school table.  Turns out we never did school at a table.  We did it on the floor, on the couch, on beds & sometimes at the kitchen table.  Soooo the school table has become our “book station” and computer table.  The awesome “cubbies” that we use to organize the kids books came from lakeshore learning!

All of our pencils are sharpened and our writing utensils are organized.

I’m feeling pretty good about the year.  I feel like now that I have a solid year under my belt I’m ready to tackle more.  I may be overoptimistic about the year and biting off more than I can chew, but the great thing about homeschooling is the ability to readjust!

Jumpin on Mom’s bed

Here’s my confession.  I don’t take enough day to day photos.  It seems like whenever I whip out the camera, I want to stage something up and photograph it.  I’m making it a mission to just do random everyday photos.  I am FOR SURE doing project 365 in January, and doing it well with my 365 photos. Without that motivation my poor camera is lonely & abandoned.  Sooo, I was laying in bed the other day chatting with the kiddos when they started jumping on the bed so I decided to capture that moment.  I ran and got that camera and messed with my settings.  I tested out a few on the kids before jumping:

Then the jumping commenced.

Then Drama Queen (who after a discussion shall from henceforth be known as Doodlebug) pulled this move:

And the bed made a loud noise and the jumping was over . . .  They got calmer and I took a few photos of the kids & Doodlebug’s friend “S”.

Fun moments to capture and my camera was glad to come out and play.  Hold me accountable readers ~ I need to shoot more :)

My hippie

So Wild Child went to a dance party last week for a friend of his.  Can you guess whether it was a female friend or a male friend :)   Anyway they were supposed to come dressed up for a groovy time!  We raided Mammy & Grumps stash and came out with the groovy vest, bandana & beads plus some bonus dance moves AND all the lingo that Grumps shared with Wild Child.  Wish I had a video of those amazing dance moves!

We zipped home to add to the ensemble before the party.  He voluntarily wore his sister’s pink tie dye shirt but refused Lil Miss Thang’s jeans (Can you believe they wear the same size?)  I paid him a dollar to wear them so of course he did as long as I promised not to tell :)   Drama Queen embellished them with patches and Dad added the glasses for the finishing touch.  Turned out to be a fabulous hippie.

Wild Child danced the night away doing the macarena and a few others.  He showed off his moves in front of a strobe light and had no inhibitions like an 8 year old should.  He had a great night with some great friends and got his groove on!

Cooking with A & H

One of Drama Queen”s friends came over yesterday (one of my favorite friends for her~ you know how there are friends that are just sweet & adorable & they get along without any drama. . . well, that’s H).  H & A decided they wanted to bake a cake and proceeded to pick a recipe out, make a shopping list, head with me to the store and then get to work.  They also decided to make it into a cooking show.  The whole thing cracked me up, these two were hilarious!  While there was supervision going on ~ they were in my eyesight the whole time I wasn’t paying attention to the minor details.  After careful review of the videos I realize that we need to review not putting the cookbook on the gas cooktop and also not putting your hands in the dough.

Batman

In the BC (before children) days, I always thought that people who let their kids wear capes in the store or run around blockbuster in a bike helmet or dress up in princess costumes on non-halloween days were a little weird.  I figured those children were overindulged or it was possibly a child run household.  I swore my home would  always be properly attired.  I knew we would leave the house at all times in NICE proper clothing with hair always done and faces scrubbed.  HA!  How delusional!  So on that note, this is who showed up at the store today :
